Do you need financial help with your new career?
A grant of up to £5000 is now available to anyone starting a career in heritage crafts.
TATHS has for many years offered awards known as Salaman Awards to help with research into the history of tools and trades. Now the TATHS Trustees have decided also to offer a sum of £5000 a year to assist young people who are pursuing a career in trades that predominantly use hand tools and follow traditional practices. The money will be available in the form of a grant which may be of the full £5000 or two or more smaller sums. The grant will be paid in 3 amounts with 40% on approval of the application, 30% after 6 months and 30% after 12 months. To qualify for a Grant you must:
- Be resident in the UK
- Be a student starting a career at a recognised school, college or university or an apprentice or employed by a crafts or trades person or have commenced working as a crafts or trades person in the two years prior to the application.
- Be training for or engaged in any craft or trade which uses hand tools.
- Recipients of grants will be given membership of TATHS for a two year period.
- Be prepared to provide a short article explaining how the grant has helped you for publication in the TATHS website and Journal.
To make an application for a Grant please complete an application form and send to the Chairman or Webmaster at, Email: chairman@taths.org.uk or webmaster@taths.org.uk
Applications will be considered by the TATHS Trustees at an Executive Committee Meeting and a Grant offered to the applicant considered most suitable.
Grants may be used for training as an Apprentice or Student, for specific training courses and or for the purchase of tools, materials and equipment. Grants cannot be used for general living expenses or for research (see the Salaman Award section on our website regarding research awards).
