Nick White's Mystery Tool

Nick White acquired this mystery tool recently. Any ideas anyone?

PICT0002

It looks maybe agricultural ? or green woodworking ? i.e. springing something apart and then holding it there while performing a task. What task Nick knows not!
Note the marks on the sides of the wooden handles which appear to be accidental saw cuts.

PICT0001
The handles are wood approx. 17.5" long, the iron "stirrup" ends are about 3" between the points.

Although the examples I own work on a gradual basis has anyone considered it being used as a Cellermans Cask Haunch? Cheers Andy

Positive identification as leg/carcass spreaders when butchering hanging pigs etc
